Overview
Epithalon (also known as Epitalon or Epithalone) is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) derived from the pineal gland extract Epithalamin. It was developed by the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology and has been studied primarily for its role in telomerase activation and epigenetic regulation.
Mechanism
Epithalon is proposed to stimulate telomerase activity, potentially lengthening telomeres in somatic cells. Research also suggests it modulates melatonin production via the pineal gland and influences the expression of genes involved in cell cycle regulation and apoptosis.
